Question:

Do you have any good tips on preaching the gospel?

Answer:

One day Jesus met a man who was possessed by a thousand demons. There was just a flicker of hope from the man, which Jesus recognized, and He drove the demons out of the man. The man wanted to join Jesus, to learn as much as he could from Him, but Jesus sent him home to his family and friends, with the instruction below.

Matthew 5     18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Deca-polis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.

This man knew nothing about Jesus except that He drove the demons out of him. He did not know any theology, or any passages of Scripture, but what he knew, he spread around. The Gospel is not only that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but also what He has done in our lives personally. If you know the Gospel from the Bible, but Jesus has not done anything in your life, you have nothing to tell. However, if Jesus has changed your life completely, and you don’t know much about the Bible, you still have a great story to tell.

Your own personal testimony, what Jesus has done for you, is the most powerful tool that you have to spread the Gospel. Just tell your friends and family what Jesus has done for you, and let them see it in your daily life, and you will draw people to Christ. If you have nothing to tell, if you do not have any relationship with Him, then rather say nothing, until you have started and grown a close personal relationship with Him. As that relationship grows, God will do more and more in your life, and you will have more to say about Him.

There is a saying, preach a sermon every day, and if necessary, use words. In other words, it is of more use to show in your daily life, how God has changed you, saying nothing; than to tell someone about God, but it is not shown in your life. Preaching the Gospel is more about living a Christlike life, than preaching a sermon about Him.

God bless as you show your love for Him through your life!
