Question:
Answer:
I would like to give just a sample of the verses that support the ongoing keeping of God’s commandments in the New Testament. These are the words of Jesus, Paul, John and James.
Matthew 5: 17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfil. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
1 John 5: 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
Romans 7: 12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
Hebrews 8 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
James 2: 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.”Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
Revelation 12: 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 14: 12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 22: 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
The Sabbath, which seems to be the big problem for many people, was kept both by Jesus and Paul. Surely if the law was nailed to the cross, Paul would have stayed away from church on the Sabbath. And in Isaiah, it says that the righteous will worship God every Sabbath in heaven and on the new earth.
Luke 4: 16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Acts 17: 2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
Isaiah 66: 22 “ For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the LORD, “ So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the LORD.
I am not ashamed to be a keeper of the Ten Commandments, not because keeping it can in any way contribute to my salvation, but because I love my Lord and He commands me to keep His law if I love Him. I would not like to be one of those who are turned away from heaven and eternal life, and told to “depart from Me,you who practice lawlessness!”
Matthew 7: 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
So there you are John, as I said before each one has to decide for themselves what the Bible teaches. I am totally convinced that the law is as binding now as it ever was.
