Question:

I recently converted from Islam to Christianity, I had studied Christianity for a while before I converted so that I would understand the belief, Now just about 1 week or so I have been changing my self I have repented and accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and saviour. I have only told some of my family. My dad caught me wearing a cross, I said I was still a Muslim and the cross was just jewellery. I felt ashamed that I lied and I fell to my knees crying begging the lord for forgiveness in the shower. I couldn’t stop crying because of how upset I was with myself. Please if you could help me it would mean so much. God bless

Answer:

My friend, you’re in good company. I don’t know how much of the Bible you have read, but one of the disciples of Jesus was Peter, who later became the leader after Jesus went back to heaven. But when Jesus was arrested, before the crucifixion, Peter denied three times that he knew Jesus. Three times! And Jesus forgave him, and Peter served God for the rest of his life. One thing you have to know about God, and that is that God is love. I saw a testimony of a South African man who also converted from Islam to Christianity, and he said that it was wonderful to know such peace, he was used to having fear in Islam, but now that he knows God, he has peace. God knows that we are sinners, and He doesn’t condemn us when we sin, but wants us to come to Him with repentance, as you did. He forgives every time, so never wonder if He has or not. He has, and always will, if you are really sorry. He knows your heart, so He knows.

1 John 1:9   If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Mark 14     66 Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came. 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with Jesus of Nazareth.”

68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed.

69 And the servant girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, “This is one of them.” 70 But he denied it again.

And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again, “Surely you are one of them; for you are a Galilean,  and your speech shows it.

71 Then he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this Man of whom you speak!

72 A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And when he thought about it, he wept.

You will probably cry a lot more as you grow closer to Jesus, and know that we hurt Him every time we sin. But we also know that our sins do not make Him love us less! So, when you sin, and you feel heartbroken, run to Him and not away, confess to Him your sin, and ask for forgiveness. He forgives immediately, so then you take His hand again, and walk along with Him on your life journey. He loves you, no matter what!  God bless!
