In the heart of the earth means that He was in the tomb, not in hell. For Him, hell was when He was on the cross, taking upon Himself all the sins of the world, from Adam and Eve to the very end of time. Imagine your own sins, being put on Jesus, and then multiply that by billions and billions of people. Jesus never sinned, He was perfect, yet He was willing to take our sins, pay the price with His own blood, and thereby give us salvation and eternal life as a free gift. The worst thing for Him, was being so covered by sin, drowning in it, becoming sin, so that it seemed to Him that He had been abandoned by His Father. That was hell for Him.
