Apart from Christianity with its thousands of different denominations, each claiming the truth, there are also a multitude of other religions, also claiming the same thing. How is this possible?

The first reason is the devil, who is doing his utmost to confuse the issue and drag people away from God. He himself has probably initiated hundreds of religions, as he doesn’t really care what people believe, as long as they do not believe God’s truth. He uses lies and deceptions to make people fall off of God’s path, not caring which way they fall. He was the one who first deceived Adam and Eve and brought sin into the world. He even tried his best to tempt Jesus to sin, but was unsuccessful.

John 8:44   “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Matthew 4:1   Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

The second reason is humanity itself. Let’s look how the Bible describes us:

Isaiah 53:6   All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way …

Romans 3:23   … for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God …

Isaiah 64:6   But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags …

Jeremiah 17:9   “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked …”

Romans 7:18   For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells …

The biggest problem with humanity is that we want things to be done our way. God tells us that only He can save us, but we want to do it how it suits us best. So with the devil leading the way, we invent all kinds of religions that tell us that we are able to save ourselves. We believe what we want to believe, which leads to thousands of different religions.

Today we have the same Bible used by all Christians, with a host of different translations. And we have tens of thousands of different denominations, each “proving” their doctrines and reason for existence from the same Scriptures. The problem is therefore not the Bible, but human beings’ interpretation of the Bible. It seems as if just about anything can be proven from the Bible, if you are willing to pick and choose verses out of context and cobble them together to prove your point. God asks us to simply read His word and ask for the Holy Spirit’s interpretation, as He was the One who inspired it. But humans want to use their own earthly wisdom to put their stamp on the interpretation of God’s Word.

And there is your answer. Humans, deceived by the devil, have convinced themselves of their own wisdom, not asking God for help, and ended up with the devil laughing his head off as we go in a million different directions, each thinking that all roads will ultimately lead to eternal life. Deception leading to death.
